Initially, Kazimir Severinovich Malevich adhered to Impressionism, later influenced by Pablo Picasso and Cubism. He joined the Jack of Diamonds group, Russia's pre-World War I avant-garde leaders. Suprematists believed each economic system produced a ruling class and an official art style. All pre-proletarian art reflected a class's ideology. The proletarian revolution, however, should express absolute, eternal 'supreme' values. Malevich and Vladimir Tatlin introduced Constructivism to Soviet avant-garde architecture. Their works, like 'Arkhitektonica' and the 'Tatlin Tower', influenced modernist architects. Malevich's Suprematism countered Tatlin's utilitarianism, advocating for 'supreme' artistic values over transient technological ones. His 'White on White' embodied Suprematist theories. Under Josef Stalin's rule, Malevich's influence waned, and he died in poverty.
