Captain January (1936) is a musical comedy-drama directed by David Butler, featuring Shirley Temple as Helen 'Star' Mason, Guy Kibbee as Captain January, Slim Summerville as Captain Nazro, Buddy Ebsen as Paul Roberts, and Sara Haden as Agatha Morgan. The film follows 'Star,' an orphaned girl rescued from the sea by lighthouse keeper Captain January. They live contentedly in Cape Tempest, Maine, until authorities intervene, deeming Star's education inadequate. Faced with losing Star, Captain January's life becomes further complicated when he loses his lighthouse position due to automation. In a bid to keep Star, his friend Captain Nazro contacts Star's wealthy relatives, leading to a series of events that reunite the family on a yacht captained by January.
